The Action Gap in Commercial Teams

why we built this

From Human to Superhuman

There is a persistent claim in the air that accountants are among the professions most exposed to AI.  It traces back to a now famous study from OpenAI and the University of Pennsylvania, which scored accountants, auditors, and tax preparers at 100 percent exposure, and the research since has mostly echoed it.

We disagree.

That 100 percent is real, but it measures the wrong thing.  Exposure means AI could cut the time on a task by half.  It says nothing about whether the job can be done without the person.  A frontier model can pass a CPA exam, and probably every degree the co-founders hold between us.  Acing an exam is not the same as knowing how the work actually gets done.  That distinction is the reason Providio exists.

We learned it from the accountants themselves.

The great humbling

We used to think technologists were the always-on tribe.  Then, a little over two years ago, we had the privilege of working in the trenches alongside a cohort that blew us away.  The accountants.

They are a rare breed.  Brilliant people, advanced degrees, and the strongest sense of ownership and rigor we have encountered anywhere.  They carry punishing workloads without drama and hold a standard higher than anyone asks of them.  Watching them work, we understood owner-mode in a way no blog, book, or playbook had taught us.  We were humbled.

We did not learn accounting from them.  We learned how an enterprise really works.

Here is one moment that stayed with us.  Late one night, near a hard deadline, we found one of them waiting on a report to finish running.  It had been going for more than thirteen hours.  This was the second attempt; the first had died after ten.  We walked the report over to the team that originally built it and asked a single question: how is a thirteen-hour run acceptable?  Nobody had ever asked.  Within the hour they split the job in two.  The largest piece now finished in under three minutes.

In a long career, we have never met a person who wakes up in the morning intending to do a bad job. Not one. The engineers who built the report never watched it run, so they never knew.  The person waiting on it never complained, because they had a hundred other things to carry and simply carried this one too.  This is how enterprises quietly lose their most valuable hours.  Not to bad intent, and not to hard problems.  To good people doing their best inside systems that were never designed to talk to one another.

They are not the only ones.  The revenue manager, the pricing analyst, the planner, the marketer, they all lose their best hours the same way, waiting on a system, a report, or each other.  Some of it is a question that sits three days in a queue before someone spends thirty minutes answering it.  None of them want a smarter tool.  They want the work to simply move.  Copy and paste was never in their job description, and it was never in ours.

We had seen the waste before

That experience confirmed something we had already seen from the other side.

In 2020, when every airline was fighting to survive, we watched enterprise software fail its promise up close. Tools bought and barely used, licenses oversubscribed, features never switched on, real money on the books with no honest return. Those problems have only compounded in the age of AI: companies with deep pockets burn through a year's token budget by the first quarter's end, while most enterprises have not even worked out where AI belongs in the budget. The shape of the waste changes. The waste does not.

Somewhere in all of this, simple questions started following us around.  All data is digital now.  So why does it still move at analog speeds?

What we built, and who we built it for

The idea that became Providio took shape out of plain frustration: we wanted to buy outcomes, and no one was selling them.  Not faster reports.  Not another dashboard.  The outcome itself.  So we built it for ourselves first.  Providio is Providio's first customer, which is why we can stand behind every part of it.

We did not lean only on the most recent lesson.  We replayed an entire career, and we poured the better way into the platform.  We have spent our lives not only between business and technology, but often between business and business, in the gap where teams that share a goal do not share a system for reaching it.  That gap is where the work actually gets hard.  Our scar tissue became our playbook.

Every team at a for-profit enterprise exists for two reasons: grow revenue, and operate efficiently.  So that is where we started.  We put every team involved in the business of managing revenue into a single frame, ourselves included, broke the problem all the way down, and built it back up, one AI-native component at a time.  This is a problem that only an AI-native approach can solve.

Providio earns its keep on the P&L.  We grow revenue and we improve margins.  But purpose and profit are not in tension here.  They are the same motion.

Most enterprise AI today makes one thing faster: the task in front of one person, inside one function.  A copilot suggests.  A dashboard reports.  Generative AI generates, and generates.  The specialist still has to gather the signals, reconcile the conflicts across teams, decide, and act.  The question no one answers is who is doing the deciding, the doing, and how fast.

Providio does that work.  We encode how a specific enterprise actually makes its cross-functional decisions, the rules, the guardrails, the trade-offs the best operators know through earned intuition, and we let the machine carry the heavy, coordinated load.  Not to replace the specialist.  To free the specialist.  Providio exists to remove the drag that keeps talented people from doing the work they were actually hired to do.

That is what we mean by human to superhuman.  Inside the company, we describe the platform as the Ironman suit, never the replacement for the person inside it.  The machine does the heavy lifting so the human can do far more than they ever could alone.  Same person.  Greater reach.

Built to be trusted with your work

Putting AI in charge of real revenue decisions is no small thing.  A general model can reason well and still be wrong in ways that cost money, because it does not know how your enterprise decides.  Enterprises do not need a cleverer assistant.  They need a system that decides the way they would, executes inside the lines they have drawn, and can prove what it did and why.

That is what we built.  Providio is adaptive, coordinated, and trustworthy.

Adaptive.  Providio shapes itself to your enterprise, not the other way around.  We encode how your business actually reasons, your rules, your guardrails, your approval chains, your strategic intent, into a Context Model that is yours alone.  No oversubscribed platform to bend your teams around.  No one-size-fits-all.  The platform fits the business now, and grows with it on the fly.

Coordinated.  A decision that helps one team can quietly cost another.  Providio puts every team in the business of managing revenue into a single frame and reconciles their competing signals into one executed action.  Not advice handed back to a specialist to chase down.  The decision, made and written into your systems, across functions, continuously.

Trustworthy.  Trust is not a feature we added.  It is the architecture.  Your team approves; Providio executes, and nothing ships without a human decision.  Every action carries its reasoning, signals, logic, and P&L impact, shown before approval and logged immutably after.  We are not in your system of record, and we do not train our models on your data.  We operate on the revenue-driving side, upstream of the books; our decisions flow into the systems that already feed your records, automatically and inside every applicable compliance obligation and control that governs the work. Your context stays yours.

Providio represents your enterprise at its best.  It makes the call your sharpest people would make, at a speed no team could sustain by hand, and it earns more autonomy only as it proves itself inside your guardrails.

Met where they are

We are live with a U.S. airline today, and in motion with more.

We owe an enormous debt to this first partner, for their trust, and just as much for their patience. They let us prove what we promised inside the reality of a running business, and they gave us their insights, and their time when it was in short supply.

We pre-boarded them before we ever formally engaged, rendering their Context Model, their own enterprise's way of reasoning, and reflecting it back to them.  We shaped the platform to them, not the other way around.  What stayed with them was seeing themselves in it.  Every solution pre-built, as promised.

We met them where they are, not where software has always demanded they be.  Just what was right for them, with room to grow on the fly.  It simply worked.

Building alongside operators, rather than at a distance, is the only way we know how to build something true.  We are grateful, and we do not take it for granted.

We are airline-first, not airline-only.  We have sat with C-level leaders across a wide range of enterprises, and we keep finding the same coordination tax, the same delayed alignment, the same value quietly leaking out.  We will earn the right to expand by proving depth first.

So, back to that claim.  Accountants are not 100 percent replaceable.  They are 100 percent worth freeing.  The same is true for every talented person now spending their best hours as a human bridge between systems that should have been talking all along.

We wanted this, and there was nothing to buy.

So we built it.  We built it for ourselves, and we built it for you.

Partner with us

Providio exists for one purpose: to drive your revenue forward and give your people their best work back.  We are grateful beyond measure to the partners who took a leap with us to prove it.  We would love to bring what we have built to your teams, and to find, together, the work only you can do.

To our families, team, partners, mentors, friends, and yes, the accountants, thank you.
